EuroDEM
Title (Product name): EuroDEM v1.0
Owner: EuroGeographics (European Association of National Mapping, Cadastre and Land Registry Authorities).
Geographical scope: European (National contributions).
Abstract:
Pan-European digital height data set harmonised from official national elevation datasets of European countries (seamless at their borders), produced in cooperation by the National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies.
EuroDEM describes the terrain relief (bare surface of the Earth) of Europe, consisting of a grid of regularly distributed terrain points with grid width / resolution of 2 arc seconds (approximately 60 meters in meridian direction, E-W dimensions varying according to the latitude). The vertical accuracy varies from 8 up to 10 meters. The scale is of approximately 1:100, 000.
It covers the 27 EU countries and the 4 EFTA countries as well as Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and the Kaliningrad area.
Purpose:
Serve as a reference data sets for a wide range of pan-European uses and applications where seamless and interoperable data is required (e.g. ortho-rectification of imagery, flood modelling and watershed analysis, modelling water flow or mass movement, extracting terrain parameters, rendering three-dimensional visualisations, relief topographic mapping, precision farming, flight simulation and safety, terrain analyses in geomorphology and physical geography, impact studies and assessments, spatial planning).
